ELECTIONS

1       CONDUCT OF BYE-ELECTION :

                        The bye-election to the 135-Sundargarh Assembly Constituency was held peacefully. In this  bye-election, the Electronic Voting Machines were used in all the 187  polling stations.

2     SPECIAL SUMMARY REVISION OF ELECTORAL ROLLS :

              Pursuant to the directions of Election Commission of India, the Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls, with reference to 01.01.2006 as the qualifying date, has been taken up in the State.  The Draft Roll was published on 05.12.2005.  After disposal of claims and objections received, the Electoral Rolls will be finally published on 10.03.2006. The salient features of this Special Summary Revision,  inter-alia, include the following:-

         (1)        The names of electors, against whom the  NBWs (Non-Bailable Warrants) are  lying unexecuted for more than six months, have been  deleted from the Electoral Rolls.

 

(2)        For the first time, the entire Draft Electoral Rolls of the State have been hoisted on the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer, Orissa.
