FIRE SERVICES
1 The Orissa Fire Service is a public utility service. It is rendering valuable services by protecting the life and property from fire hazards. Fire service personnel are also pressed into service during calamities. There are 153 Fire Stations functioning in the State. This includes 39 Fire Stations, which were opened during the period from 2001 to 2003.
2 During the year 2005 (from January to November), the 9134 Fire Calls and 4031 Special Service Calls were promptly and effectively responded to by the Fire Service Organization. The Fire Service personnel have also performed the fire protection duty during the visits of VVIPs & VIPs. Stationary fire protection are routinely being taken during the anticipated law and order situation and in various fairs and festivals.
3 Out of 153 Fire Stations, the 85 are functioning in their own buildings, 16 in other Government buildings and 52 in private rented buildings. During the year 2005, the construction of 19 Fire Station buildings have been completed. The 25 Fire Station buildings are under construction. The sum of Rs.59.80 lakhs have been provided this year for the construction of 13 Nos. of Staff quarters for Fire Service personnel. This construction is almost over. Government have provided a sum of Rs.2.5 crores during the 1st Supplementary Budget for construction of 10 nos. of Fire Station buildings. Four Tata Indica high capacity diesel driven trailer pumps have also been purchased for fire fighting purpose, during the year 2005-06.
4 Rs.34,59,198/- have been collected and deposited in the Government account during the year 2005 (from January to December,05) towards collection of Professional Tax, sale proceed of condemned vehicles, hire charges etc.
5 A good many number of Fire Service Officers and men have been awarded with Fire Service Medal for Gallantry, President Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service and Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service.
