STATE FINGER PRINT BUREAU, BHUBANESWAR

1.    The State Fingerprint Bureau was created on 1st April, 1936. The fingerprint record slips as on 31.12.2006 are 48959. Necessary provisions have been made in the intranet for value added service to the Investigating Officers and implementation of Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) in the State Finger Print Bureau and its 34 Police districts/ Units. 

2.    During the year the fingerprint record slips of 420 convicted criminals were classified and tested under Henry system. The fingerprint slips of 11,155 unidentified persons were searched with reference to Bureau records. The identity could be established in 74 cases. The 989 search slips were returned due to defective prints.  The remaining 10,092 search slips did not identify the persons, because their fingerprint records are not available in the Bureau. The fingerprint record slips of 445 convicted criminals were consigned to National Crime Records Bureau (N.C.R.B.), New Delhi for permanent record in the  Central Pool. The fingerprint classification formula in respect of  7 convicted criminals were supplied to the districts for entry in their history sheets.

3.   49 Police Officers were trained on fingerprint and foot print science in 2006.
