DIRECTORATE OF PUBLIC PROSECUTION

       The Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Orissa, Bhubaneswar has undertaken the task of monitoring and presentation of prosecution in the criminal courts of the State to improve the rate of conviction. This organisation is maintaining proper co-ordination between the investigating and prosecuting agencies to achieve the end of flawless presentation of the prosecution before the courts. It also conducts enquiry against the State Prosecutors on receipt of allegations and suggest for taking appropriate action against the erring Prosecutors on receipt of instructions from Hon’ble High Court, Orissa and Law Department. The Orissa State Prosecution Service Rules, 1997 were framed and notified in 1997. Since then the 17 Public Prosecutors, 12 Addl. Public Prosecutors and 19 Asst. Public Prosecutors have been recruited and appointed by the Government. The table below shows the rate of conviction in cases conducted by the cadre Prosecutors appointed as above.
